There are many people these days that are involved in long distance relationships, their reasons for doing this differ. With many young people moving away from home to go to college, it is often the case that this age group are the ones in long term relationships.

There are differing views on long term relationships, and whether they actually work or not. My personal opinion is that the vast majority do not work.

For example, lets look at the idea of a teenage boy living at home. He moves to college, but before he moved he would spend all of his time with his girlfriend, this is the classic beginning of a long distance relationship. They would decide to see each other in the holidays for example and carry on the relationship as normal as possible.

Sadly though college provides too much of a temptation for males and they are likely to cheat. With the constant parting and drinking, the temptation to cheat at college could be way too much.

It is normally the case that if a man thinks that he can get away with being unfaithful, then he probably will be, and a long term relationship is the perfect setting for this. Being in a long term relationship means that the chances of you discovering that your partner is cheating are low.

There is also the chance of you going apart from each other in a long term relationship. Spending time away from you partner will meant that you both make new friends and get used to being without each other.

The only way that I can see a long distance relationship working out is if it is only for a short amount of time. It is most probably not going to work if you are going to be apart for several years.

If you’ve recently broke up with your partner because of a distance issue but they want to give things another go you should think long and hard about it. Don’t just get back with your ex because you’re scared of moving on because while they’re away you’re practically alone anyway.
