Relationships are complex, we all know this. While it’s a excellent thing to pass some time as a couple, there’ll be times when your significant other, and indeed you, would enjoy a second or two to themselves. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they’d be somewhere else totally, but if your partner is sat reading a novel, playing an instrument, enjoying apursuit or whatever, think carefully about annoying them.

Relaxing as a couple in the same space in alternative ways can actually be a wonderful factor for a relationship, and can brace the bonds between you. How? As both you and your other half will be able to build a mutual understanding and awareness for one another’s pastimes. Granted, they won’t be endeavours you like yourself, but your partner is interested in them and so should be ready to enjoy them.

Having said that, donot let your better half pamper themselves for so long that it becomes damaging to the time you might be spending together. As with any issues in relations, it’s a matter of equilibrium and discovering common ground. In a similar way, if you yourself pass a lot of time busy with something that does not involve your partner, be sure to let them know they’re appreciated with a few words, a gesture, orjust by passing physical contact such as a kiss or acuddle.

Letting your other half know they’re valued at the same time as still giving them breathing space to do as they wish is a vital part of any relationship, and giving each other space can certainly strengthen what you share.

It is also a question of respecting the personal breathing space of somebody you care about a great deal. That respect can also strengthen the bond between you as a couple. Those moments apart from each other can make you value your time interacting even more. As the saying goes ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder’, so every now and again provide your better half some breathing space and enjoy a successful and fulfilling time as a couple.
